See exactly when ChatGPT and Gemini start (or stop) recommending your competitors. Daily snapshots.
Tracking your own brand in AI assistants is half the picture. The other half is tracking your competitors – both to spot where they're winning and to catch the moment your brand replaces them in the LLM's answers.
For every daily run of every tracked prompt, we scan the response text for mentions of each tracked competitor by name, by domain, and by common aliases (e.g. "Ahrefs" matches "ahrefs.com", "Ahrefs Keywords Explorer", etc.). We record the mention along with the sentence context and the sentiment.
AI Visibility → Competitors → Matrix is the single most useful view. Rows are prompts, columns are tracked brands, cells show mention rate over your selected date range. You can see instantly which prompts you dominate, which a specific competitor dominates, and which are wide open.
Each competitor has a sentiment chart showing whether mentions skew positive, neutral or negative across the past 30/90/365 days. A competitor whose sentiment is sliding into negative territory is often about to lose their default-recommendation status – a leading indicator worth watching.
Set up Slack or email alerts on competitor events:
Three to five direct competitors is the sweet spot. More than that and the matrix becomes too noisy to read. If you operate in a fragmented market, track three by name and add a "watch list" of secondary competitors you can promote into the main list as needed.
